WESTTOWN, Pa – L4 Elite (KY) LSM Anthony Estrada said he saw no reason to dish off after intercepting a pass in his own end during overtime of the 2021 AA championship game at the Boys Summer Slam today at Westtown School.
“I picked off a pass on the defensive side, went straight in and came down the midline,” said the rising junior from South Oldham High (KY). “I realized no one was sliding so I just drove in and shot to the bottom left and it went in.”
Estrada’s game-winner gave L4 Elite – based out of Louisville – an 8-7 win over SouthShore.
L4 Elite finished the tourney with a 6-0 record, outscoring its opponents, 66-18.
“We’re tight; we’re all friends and we have a good program,” said Estrada. “We just came in knowing what we needed to do. There were a lot of good East Coast teams so we needed to pick up our game for the this tournament.
“I think we’re successful because we have a lot of team bonding. We’re all tight; we pass the ball around and get it done.”
Attackman Gavin Noland (Trinity High) had three goals in the title game and 24 overall in the tourney. Attackman Ben Hubbs (St. Xavier) added two goals in the final while attackman Davis Wilmes (Trinity) and Noah Malubay (St. Xavier) each scored once.
Noland said the squad was well prepared after a strong showing two weeks ago in the Adrenaline Platinum Cup at the Delaware Turf Complex.
“We played some top tier teams at the Platinum Cup and that helped us,” he said. “We came here with some big expectations and we played to them.
“We had quick ball movement but we also slowed it down. These teams were good and when they get momentum it’s hard to slow them down. So we kept it simple and it worked.”
The event featured over 270 teams and more than 75 college coaches attended.
